Deadline approaching for economic support program for Mecklenburg County homeowners

The deadline to apply for the Helping Out Mecklenburg homeowners with Economic Support (HOMES) Program is Dec. 15, 2023. Applications for the program are processed on a first-come, first-served basis until funds are exhausted.

Mecklenburg County recognizes that homeownership is the most important investment many residents make in their lifetime. This year, the County partnered with the City of Charlotte to provide additional grant funding to qualifying residential homeowners to help address the rising costs of retaining their homes.

Grant funds will be paid to the Mecklenburg County Tax Collector, who will reduce the total amount of taxes due for qualifying recipients' primary residence. The amount granted will be equal to 25% of the Mecklenburg County tax amount on the last available tax bill, rounded to the nearest dollar, not to exceed $426. If you live within the Charlotte City limits, you may qualify for an additional grant. The amount granted will be equal to 25% of the City of Charlotte tax amount on the last available tax bill, rounded to the nearest dollar, not to exceed $234. Qualifying residents may receive up to $660 if awarded the maximum amount for both grants.
