The [Re]New Crew is a dedicated group of volunteers who share our vision to create a safe and healthy home for every person in the Greater Charlotte area. They offer their time and skills, which allow us to offer critical repairs and modifications at no cost to Charlotte’s neighbors in need. Interested in joining the [Re]New Crew? Every member of the [Re]New Crew gets the benefit of helping neighbors in need. They also get to utilize existing home maintenance and repair skills and develop new ones to help with their own DIY projects in the future. Plus, every volunteer will be considered for our annual Golden Hammer Volunteer of the Year Award, recognized at Rebuilding Spirits.

[Re]Fresher: 5 volunteer shifts (20 hours)

Requirements for Joining the [Re]New Crew

Don’t have home repair skills? No problem! Our skilled construction staff will teach you everything you need to know to complete the project. They’ll also help you develop DIY skills you can use for future repair and maintenance projects. We also provide all the tools, safety equipment, and materials you’ll need on site.

Other Requirements:

  • [Re]New Crew members must be 16 years or older. Members under 18 must be accompanied on every shift by an adult.

  • Members must attend an orientation session (virtual or in person) before their first shift.

  • Members must read and sign our Volunteer Waiver Form before their first shift.

  • Members must follow all health and safety requirements on site, which includes the wearing of Personal Protective Equipment and following instructions of RTGC construction staff.

  • Members must be prepared to wear a mask inside at the direction of construction staff to respect wishes of the homeowners we serve.


Common [Re]New Crew Volunteer Activities

Home Repair and Maintenance Projects:

Common volunteer tasks in our critical home repair and accessibility modification projects include:

  • Removing carpet

  • Installing durable vinyl plank flooring, smoke detectors, toilets, handrails, grab bars, door sweeps, and insulation.

  • Repairing crawl space doors and exterior mortar and siding.

  • Rebuilding exterior decking.

  • Completing yard maintenance and interior demolition.

Other Opportunities:

There are many ways you can accomplish our mission of repairing homes, revitalizing communities, rebuilding lives. Other opportunities include:

  • Tabling at corporate and community events.

  • Engaging with homeowners on volunteer days.

  • Reach out to other homeowners to share about the services we offer.

  • Warehouse and office administrative support.

  • Auditing completed projects to organizational standards.

  • Serve on our board of directors.
