Front and back cover of the 2023-24 Annual Report.

Rebuilding Together of Greater Charlotte (RTG) has released its 2023-24 Annual Report, during which the organization completed 42 critical home repair and accessibility modification projects for families with an average annual household income of $31,970. The report details the organization’s impact on neighbors in need in the Greater Charlotte area, its financial position, and the need for continued support from the community.

The report features a letter from Executive Director Beth Morrison, information about RTGC’s staff and board members, data highlighting service impact, and stories detailing some notable projects.

In addition to those features, the report also shares information on the stewardship of its finances. It details the position, transparency, and management of resources. RTGC is a platinum-level participant in GuideStar’s Candid program, demonstrating its commitment to transparency. The platinum level is the highest tier of the program from Candid, which is an independent natinal nonprofit that evaluates transparency and openness for almost two million nonprofits.

“This year has been a testament to the power of community and collaboration,” Morrison said, “as we expanded our reach, strengthened our programs, and celebrated new milestones in our mission to ensure safe and healthy homes for neighbors in need.”

In addition to information about the staff members, board of directors, and supporters, this section also shared data regarding volunteers and the impact or repairs. In 2023-24, more than 350 volunteers provided more than 1,600 hours of service — valued at more than $50,000. Furthermore, RTGC completed 42 critical home repair and accessibility modification projects last fiscal year. The average project had labor and material costs of $13,083, and 18 repairs were completed per project on average. The average annual household income of families served was $31,970. More than half of the families served featured someone living with a disability living in the home.

Our Impact

Continuing to share the impact of RTGC’s repair projects, the Our Impact section shares three stories.

Our Finances

As part of its commitment to transparency, this section of the Annual Report shares the Statement of Financial Position and the Statement of Activities for RTGC as of June 30, 2024. As of that date, the organization’s total liabilities and net assets is $1,461,929. Its total expenses in 2023-24 was $1,625,152, and its total revenue and support was $2,234,491.

Over the past five years, RTGC has experienced tremendous growth, reflecting its commitment to meeting the needs of the Greater Charlotte community. Revenue has increased nearly fourfold, enabling the organization to expand from a small team of two to a dedicated staff of 15, significantly enhancing the capacity to serve. What began as a focus on one neighborhood at a time has evolved into a service area encompassing five counties and several focus neighborhoods, allowing RTGC to make an even greater impact on more lives and strengthen more communities than ever before.

Finally, featured in the Our Finances section is The Revolving Repair Fund, an internal fund introduced in 2023-24 to cover the upfront costs of critical home repair projects. While RTGC has access to government grants for the direct project costs, these programs often operate on reimbursements, which requires significant capital. In years past, the organization had to wait for reimbursements before beginning new projects. The Revolving Repair Fund increases the efficiency and efficacy of RTGC’s services, and it ensures that more low-income families are getting the help they need more quickly.

Our Affiliate

In the final section of the Annual Report, RTGC shares information about how people like you can become [Re]Builders — those invested in helping neighbors in need in their communities.

More than 2.6 million homeowners nationwide live in deteriorating, physically inadequate homes that threaten their health and safety. An aging population, veterans with disabilities returning home, and a lack of equity in underserved communities are creating a housing atmosphere where the services we provide are greatly needed. RTGC’s work preserves critical affordable housing opportunities and stabilizes and revitalizes neighborhoods. By collaborating with other mission-driven nonprofits, local and federal government agencies, skilled trades associations, and community advocacy groups, this organization can become a stronger community revitalization partner and increase the impact of our work in Greater Charlotte. By working with volunteers and by investing in communities, RTGC improve the lives of our neighbors in need by increasing the safety and health of their homes, building economic development opportunities, and revitalizing our communities. RTGC relies upon the generosity of donors to carry out our work, and we can’t do it without you. By joining our work, you can become an investment partner in your community.
