Dear Representative/Senator ______________:

No one should have to choose between putting food on the table and living in a safe and healthy home. Unfortunately, that’s the reality for more than 2.6 million neighbors living in deteriorating, physically inadequate housing that threatens their health and safety. An aging population, veterans with disabilities returning home, and a lack of equity in underserved communities are creating a housing atmosphere where home repair services are greatly needed. I am writing to urge you to support the Whole Home Repairs Act of 2024 (S.3871) to help families in my community and across the country with the repairs they need.

This funding could significantly increase the impact of organizations like [INSERT AFFILIATE NAME], an affiliate of Rebuilding Together, the leading national nonprofit organization repairing the homes of people in need and revitalizing our communities. Through its national network of affiliates, Rebuilding Together works proactively and collaboratively with community leaders, long-term residents, funders, and volunteers to foster dialogue and create safe, healthy communities across the country. They make essential zero-cost repairs to help our neighbors stay in their homes. Over the past 30-plus years, they have changed the lives of more than 200,000 of our neighbors, impacting 6 million people with the help of 4 million volunteers. Our local teams are rooted in the communities we serve.

As the costs of home repairs and accessibility modifications have significantly increased across the country, Rebuilding Together affiliates are working hard to stretch funding as far as possible. In fact, for every $1 invested in their work, they deliver an average of $2.84 in social return on investment. Still, our communities require a much greater level of investment in home repairs to keep our neighbors safe and healthy.

Again, I urge you to support the Whole-Home Repairs Act (S.3871) to bring more resources to this critical work. Thank you for your consideration. Please feel free to contact me if you would like to discuss this issue further.

Sincerely,

About the Bill

The Whole-Home Repairs Act is a bipartisan bill that would create a national five-year pilot program to expand on a wildly successful and popular Pennsylvania program designed to help homeowners with critical home repairs.

The bill is a crucial piece of solving the broader housing shortage the country is facing. When families can’t afford repairs, we lose housing units to blight, which further exacerbates the housing crisis. The bill helps address this issue by allowing more families to keep their homes in good condition, so they can stay in them.
