Lowe's Commits $5K to Secure RTGC's Service Vehicles

To support Rebuilding Together of Greater Charlotte’s recovery efforts following vandalism of and theft from its service vehicles and implement preventative security measures, Lowe’s has committed an in-kind donation of $5,000 in gift cards to the Restoring Our Fleet campaign.

“Rebuilding Together makes a strong, positive impact on our community, and seeing their organization experience theft and vandalism is disheartening,” said Marcel Solomon, Community Relations Manager at Lowe’s. “As a partner and home improvement company, we knew instantly that we could help the team recover and strengthen their security.”

At around 3:30 a.m. on Oct. 29, perpetrators broke windows of two service vans and stole a nail gun from them.

These vans are the lifeline of RTGC’s mission to repair homes, revitalize communities, and rebuild lives. One service van has already been repaired, but full critical home repair and accessibility modification services for neighbors in need are paused until the other van is fixed.

This in-kind donation will be used to build a secure structure to store the service vehicles in overnight to prevent future incidents affecting our services.

“We’re incredibly grateful for Lowe’s’ continued support,” said Executive Director Beth Morrison, “ensuring this setback doesn’t impact our ability to deliver critical repair services when the community is counting on us.”

This act of vandalism and theft follows a similar crime committed against RTGC in 2022, when thieves stole a trailer full of items used to complete critical home repairs and accessibility modifications. Then, Lowe’s again supported RTGC by donating $10,000 in cash to purchase a replacement trailer.

A valuable corporate partner of RTGC, Lowe’s has committed more than $400,000 to supporting low-income homeowners through RTGC in 2023.

Lowe’s, headquartered in Mooresville, opened its doors in North Carolina in 1921. Today, it is one of the largest home improvement retailers in the world with about 300,000 associates across the country delivering the right home improvement products with the best service and value across every channel and community we serve.

RTGC’s mission is repairing homes, revitalizing communities, rebuilding lives. One of many nationwide affiliates of the Rebuilding Together network, our vision is safe homes and communities for everyone.
