RTGC Welcomes New Board Members

 

We are excited to announce the addition of four new members to the Rebuilding Together of Greater Charlotte (RTGC) Board of Directors: Jordan Braswell, McKayla Hernandez, Tessa Shakon, and Dr. Kathleen Subasic. The four community leaders were approved by the existing board, led by Sean Reilly of Lowe’s Home Improvement, and began serving the organization in July. Their diverse backgrounds and deep commitment to our mission will bring invaluable insights, direction, and organization as we continue to support neighbors in need in the Greater Charlotte area through no-cost critical home repairs and accessibility modifications.

The board provides expertise, guidance, and governance to RTGC’s staff. Members also help in areas related to programming, development, and operations.

Jordan Braswell - Program Officer, LISC Charlotte

Jordan Braswell currently serves as a program officer at LISC Charlotte, where he oversees a diverse network of business development organizations. In this capacity, he provides crucial support to small businesses in the Historic West End by delivering technical assistance and enhancing their access to capital. Concurrently, Jordan serves as an associate pastor at Sanctuary Charlotte Church. Prior to joining LISC and Sanctuary, Jordan served as the lead pastor of two churches in Gaston County, North Carolina. Jordan holds a Master of Divinity from Duke Divinity School and a bachelor’s degree in public relations from North Carolina A&T.

McKayla Hernandez - Manager of Basketball Communications, Charlotte Hornets

McKayla Hernandez enters her third season as Manager of Basketball Communications with the Charlotte Hornets. In her role, Hernandez schedules player appearances, assists with content strategy and acts as a contact for day-to-day basketball media requests.

Prior to re-joining the organization in January 2023, Hernandez spent two years at Red Ventures, where she served as Communications Coordinator – focused on assisting with the company’s public relations efforts and collaborated with its subsidiary brands to further their brand reach. Prior to that, she began her tenure with the Hornets as an intern in 2019 and became an associate in 2020, assisting with both corporate and basketball communications. Hernandez also completed an internship with Excel Sports Management, a top sports agency based in Manhattan, New York.

Hernandez graduated from UNC Charlotte in 2019, receiving a bachelor’s degree in mass communication with a minor in journalism. Hernandez, a native New Yorker, previously attended Molloy University and Binghamton University as a student-athlete (women’s basketball) from 2015-2018.

Tessa Shakon - Vice President of Investor Relations, Ridgemont Equity Partners

Tessa Shakon has 10 years of experience in investor relations and asset management, which started in Chicago and took her to San Francisco and now Charlotte. Here in Charlotte, she serves as the vice president of investor relations at Ridgemont Equity Partners. She graduated from Northwestern University, with a degree in economics and Chinese and speaks both Chinese and French. In her spare time, she loves spending time with her dog, chickens, and cat.

Dr. Kathleen Subasic - Associate Professor, Occupational Therapy Assistant Program, Cabarrus College of Health Sciences

Dr. Kathleen Subasic earned a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from Saint Francis University, a Master of Science degree in occupational therapy from Towson University and a Ph.D. in occupational therapy from Nova Southeastern University. She has over 25 years of experience in a variety of clinical settings including skilled nursing, inpatient rehabilitation, acute care, outpatient day-treatment, home health, and community practice. Her experience includes working with adults and older adults, particularly those with neurological conditions. Dr. Subasic’s passion for facilitating accessibility and safety in the home environment led her to develop her own business to provide home assessment and home modification services. She has years of teaching experience, having taught at Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions,Shenandoah University, Towson University, Wingate University, and Cabarrus College of Health Sciences, where she is currently an associate professor in the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program. Dr. Subasic’s favorite occupations include spending time with her husband and 14-year old daughter, walking her dogs, exercising, reading and spending time in the great outdoors.
