January saw a series of updates for the Rebuilding Together of Greater Charlotte staff. Members returned to the office and our construction crew got back out to serving neighbors in need when the office reopened following a winter closure period. January also saw the end of the Behind Every Front Door fundraising campaign.

Unceasing Commitment to Service
For Alex Sanchez, an Army Reserves veteran who led his AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps team through a three-week collaboration with RTGC this past fall, giving back isn’t just a series of actions. It’s a dedicated choice.
Behind Every Front Door Campaign
Supporters raised more than $17,000 to support neighbors in need through RTGC’s Behind Every Front Door campaign, which ended Dec. 31, 2023. Donations like these help us to achieve our mission of safe and healthy homes and communities for everyone by allowing us to offer or repair and modification projects at no cost to low-income homeowners.
Harvard Study Reveals Urgent Housing Challenges for Older Adults
America is not ready to provide housing and care for its aging population, concludes a recent report from the Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University. Repairs and modifications that help make homes safer and more accommodating for older adults, like ones RTGC provides at no cost, are urgently needed.
Rebuilding Together National Debuts New Podcast
Rebuilding Together’s national office, the leading national nonprofit organization dedicated to repairing homes for neighbors in need and revitalizing our communities, has debuted its new podcast, [Re]Builders. The debut episode features Janice Walker, the executive director of Rebuilding Together Boston.
NC Rate Bureau Requests Homeowners Insurance Increase
The NC Rate Bureau has requested that Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey increase homeowners insurance rates by an average of 42% across the state.

Home Repair and Accessibility Modification Project Updates:
RTGC’s construction crews returned to the community at the start of the new year! Six projects are underway. Among the repairs completed in this month are making house numbers visible, caulking exterior doors and windows, removing carpet, installing flooring, and more! Also in this month, more than 10 projects moved to preconstruction, which means they home repair and accessibility modification projects are getting scoped and estimated.
Volunteer Updates:
In January, Rebuilders have volunteered their time and skills to support Charlotte’s neighbors in need. Throughout the month, RTGC had six volunteer shifts, and volunteers completed 40 hours of repairs and modifications. Review upcoming volunteer dates.
Meet Community Engagement Coordinator Erin Fisher
What do painting, mermaids, and bees have in common? They’re just part of the things that make Erin Fisher a valuable member of the RTGC team. In her role as community engagement coordinator, she manages volunteers and connects the organization to all the communities we serve in Cabarrus, Gaston, Iredell, Mecklenburg, and Union counties.
