Helping Neighbors Remain Safe in the Homes

In September, Wells Fargo joined Rebuilding Together of Greater Charlotte to repair the homes of four neighbors who have lived in Hidden Valley homes for over 30 years. During a two-day event, 80 volunteers provided essential, no-cost home repairs. From roof repairs to plumbing repairs and electrical fixes, this work helped neighbors of the Hidden Valley community safely remain in their homes for years to come and preserve their key economic asset – their homes.

One of those homes belongs to Linda Coble, who hosts her family there once a month to keep them closely connected.

Coble lost her husband and son a few years ago and tried to keep up maintaining the home in their absence, but larger repairs were far too expensive for her. As part of her repair project, Coble received new roofing, flooring, interior doors, exterior handrails and stairs and more.

“(These improvements) will keep me in the home and make it safer to be in the home,” Coble said.

Getting these repairs from RTGC with the help of volunteers like Wells Fargo employees has helped Coble realize there are resources available in the community for her and people like her.

“I truly feel that they’re an organization that’s committed to helping people age in place,” she said, “and I’m just grateful that there is a resource in the community that is true to what they say.”

RTGC began working in Hidden Valley in 2020 through its Building a Healthy Neighborhood program and recently closed another round of applications for home repairs. With support from partners like Wells Fargo, we have completed more than 30 home repair projects in the community.

RTGC is an affiliate of Rebuilding Together. At Rebuilding Together, we’re proud of the work we do with partners that share our vision of safe homes and communities for everyone. Together, we’re making life-changing impact in neighborhoods across the country for the homeowners in need who live behind every front door.
